Daniel Hughes is primarily a Figurative painter. He did his undergraduate degree at OCADU (including a year in Florence, Italy) and his MFA at The New York Academy of Art, working with painters Erik Fischl and Vincent Desiderio. He has exhibited throughout Canada, the U.S and London, England. Art Fairs include Chicago/Madrid/Toronto and London.
Hughes has exhibited in numerous Museum group shows including The Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, AR /The Baker Museum in Naples, FL/ The National Portrait Gallery of London, UK. The National Portrait Gallery of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK. Teaching positions have included OCADU / Queen’s University/ The Toronto School of Art and The Avenue Road Art School. “ I studied in the tradition of the Old Masters, but over time I have become more interested in surface and deconstructing old philosophies about painting and traditional techniques. My paintings are always evolving and fluid”.
